Interventional Radiology 2019-02-28T14:35:17+00:00

Interventional radiology is a relatively new speciality. This workshop’s aim is to give you an insight about it and it consists of two main parts, each one containing theoretical aspects, but also practical activities. During the first part you will learn about the basics principles of IR, the materials used and you will be given the opportunity to learn hands-on about vascular access. After a short break, the second part’s main focus will be on the the therapeutical indications of IR, participants will be given the chance to excercise some of the techniques used in IR, such as navigating through the vascular system, embolization, stent deployment and balloon-assisted angioplasty. If this is a field of interest for you, it is a great opportunity to get accustomed to it.

1. Introduction to IR

  • about X-Rays
  • about angiography
  • protection of the personnel
  • what is IR and departments in which can be used

2. Endovascular access

  • presentation of the materials used (Seldinger needle, guidewire, introductor, dilatator)
  • video Seldinger method
  • DEMOSTRATION: how it’s done
  • PRACTICAL part 1: gaining endovascular access using Seldinger method

3. Break – 10 minutes

4. Navigation and procedures

  • embolization
  • coiling
  • stroke
  • cerebral aneurysm
  • PRACTICAL part 2: navigation on demonstration boards, balloon angioplasty, stents
