Professor Sajko graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Zagreb in 1997, and in 2001 began his specialization in neurosurgery at the Clinic for Neurosurgery of the Sisters of Mercy Clinical Hospital, Zagreb.

Prof. Sajko finished his PhD thesis in Biology at the Faculty of Science University of Zagreb, Croatia, his doctoral dissertation entitled “The importance of comparing the immunoreactivity of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) and proliferation factor (MIB-1) in malignant glial brain tumors.”

He is a senior research associate at the Medical School University of Zagreb and a College Professor at the University of Applied Health Sciences, Zagreb and also an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Education and Rehabilitation Sciences, University of Zagreb.

From 2007 he is Neurosurgeon at the Department of Neurosurgery University Hospital Center “Sestre milosrdnice” (Sisters of Mercy), Zagreb, Croatia.
Between November 2008 and October 2009 he completed an Epilepsy Surgery fellowship at the Department of Neurosurgery, University Hospital Bonn, Germany, granted by the Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst- German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), under the supervision of professor Johannes Schramm, President of EANS.

His main areas of interest are Neurooncology surgery, Epilepsy surgery. In 2007 he passed the Part I (written) EANS examination and after that he passed the Part II (oral) EANS/UEMS Joint Examination Board exam- currently the first neurosurgeon in Croatia to have completed this exam.

Dr. Tomislav Sajko has published over 85 professional and scientific papers, including congress abstracts as follows: 13 original papers published in journals cited in Current Contents (CC), 13 papers in SCI indexed journals, 19 papers in SCOPUS indexed abstracts, a book on neurosurgery: Rotim K. Sajko T. Neurosurgery. Zdravstveno veleučilište, Zagreb, 2011 and has 95 citations.
