Torstein R. Meling is Professor of Neurosurgery at University of Geneva, Switzerland and Senior Advisor at the Besta NeuroSim Center at Istituto Nazionale Neurologico in Milano, Italy. He received his pre-graduate training at the University of Oslo, Norway and post-graduate training at the National Hospital in Norway, followed by fellowship training in vascular and skull base surgery in Bristol, UK.
His clinical interests include cerebrovascular surgery, skull base surgery, orbital tumors, and craniopharyngiomas. He receives funding for clinical outcomes research and for the development of objective assessment tools of microsurgery.
Prof. Meling has been an individual member of the EANS since 2003 and won the Braakman Prize in 2004. He has served on the EANS training committee since 2009 and as its chairman 2017-2019. Co-founded of the Lyon hands-on course in 2012 and later co-founded 7 new hands-on courses during his tenure as TC chair.
He has published 250+ peer reviewed scientific articles and book chapters, presented 400 lectures at international meetings and courses, and participated in the organization of more than 110 congresses, postgraduate training courses or hands-on courses.
Prof. Meling is currently editor of Neurosurgical Review and editorial member of Brain & Spine, Acta Neurochirurgica, and Neurochirurgie. He is a member of the German Academy of Neurosurgery (GANS) and World Academy of Neurosurgery (WANS) and honorary member of several national neurosurgical societies.
